PICKING YOUR LAWYER
All lawyers are not the same. Not all lawyers who hold themselves out as qualified to represent you in the sale or purchase of your home have the same experience, or level of dedication, to representing you and your interests. Here are a few of the things that we urge you to consider in selecting an attorney:
- You want a lawyer who will keep your best interest in mind at all times, not the interest of anyone else.
- You want a lawyer who will dedicate the time to your sale or purchase and to getting your closing completed by the targeted closing date in your contract.
- You want a lawyer who is available to answer your questions and to help you make the decisions that you need to make. You don’t want a lawyer who will simply hand you over to a secretary or paralegal. While secretaries and paralegals are important to the process, there are times when you absolutely need to speak with an attorney. Will he or she be there for you?
- The very last thing you want to do is to hire an attorney who will offer you the lowest fee for his or her services. Do you really think that the lowest paid attorney will spend the time necessary to return your calls and answer your questions? Your attorney is an important part of a successful sale. Don’t settle for the cheapest attorney you can find.
